Ever catch yourself scrolling through social media, seeing everyone's highlight reels, and feeling like you're falling behind?
You know that moment—when it seems like everyone's crushing their goals while you're still figuring out what to have for breakfast.
Here's the thing - you're playing the wrong game. The only person you need to measure up against is yourself - specifically, who you were yesterday.
Stop Playing the Comparison Game
Let's talk about this comparison trap we all fall into. We do it all the time, right?
Someone posts about their new promotion, their perfect workout routine, or how they've mastered making sourdough bread, and suddenly we're questioning every life choice we've ever made.
But here's what's messed up about this whole comparison thing - you're comparing your behind-the-scenes footage to everyone else's highlight reel.
Think about it - you have no idea how many times they failed before that perfect post, what advantages they had, or what their actual journey looked like.
It's like comparing apples to rockets - it just doesn't make sense.
The 1% Better Rule
So here's what actually matters: Are you doing better than yesterday's version of yourself?
I'm not talking about massive transformations here. Nobody wakes up and runs a marathon if they've been a couch potato their whole life (and if they try, they're probably in for a rough time).
It's about those tiny wins.
Maybe yesterday you could only do five push-ups. Today you did six. That's a win.
Maybe yesterday you procrastinated for three hours, but today you procrastinated for two hours and fifty minutes. Hey, that's still progress!
These small improvements might seem insignificant, but they add up faster than those streaming service subscriptions we all keep forgetting to cancel.
Riding the Waves
Life isn't a straight line. Some days you're crushing it, feeling like you could take on the world. Other days? Well, other days you might celebrate just getting out of bed. That's totally normal.
Think of it like a video game - you're going to have levels where you breeze through like a pro, and others where you keep falling into the same pit over and over.
The key isn't to never fall—it's to get better at getting back up.
Finding Your Balance
It's all about finding that sweet spot between pushing yourself and being kind to yourself. It's like being your own coach, but not the scary kind who made you run laps in high school.
When you see others succeeding, train yourself to think "Good for them, now back to my own race."
Remember, we're all out here trying to figure things out. Some days you'll be the one inspiring others, and some days you'll be the one looking for inspiration.
That's just how it goes.
The only thing that matters is: are you showing up for yourself today a little bit better than you did yesterday?
Quote of the Day:
"Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself." - Marcus Aurelius
