If your future doesn't light a fire under your ass, you're aiming too low. Your goals should be so exciting they practically punch you in the face every morning. They should drag you out of bed, screaming, "Let's fucking go!"
Now, of course, you focus on the process and not the results. But don't get it twisted - the goals are still the thing that should drive you. It's like this: your daily grind is the process. But, those big goals fuel you to keep going when it gets tough.
I stumbled across a tweet from Codie Sanchez the other day that hit me like a ton of bricks:
"You can't teach hunger."
At first, I scrolled past it. But damn, it stuck with me. Because it's true. That fire in your belly? It's not something you can download or buy on Amazon Prime.
When I say "hunger," I'm talking about that deep-down, gut-level need to succeed. It's that itch you can't scratch, that voice in your head that won't shut up about your dreams. It's what makes you:
Stay up till 3 AM working on your side hustle, even though you've got a 9-to-5 to get to in the morning.
Skip the bar on Friday night to learn a new skill that'll get you closer to your goals.
Keep pushing when everyone else says you're crazy and should just settle for a "normal" life.
Get back up and try again after you've failed for the tenth time.
That's hunger. It's not pretty. It's not comfortable. But it's what separates the people who make shit happen from the ones who just talk about it.
And here's the thing: You really can't teach hunger. It's one of those things that either you have or you don't.
And if you don't have it, then you need to look at, like, okay, what am I doing wrong? Because if not, then you kind of have to settle for a life of mediocrity.
And I don't think that's really what we want to do here. I think we all want to be great. We all want to have the best life. We all have dreams. We all have things we want to achieve, but we ain't going to do any of that if we don't get our shit together.
And lets not forget...
If the people around you aren't matching your energy, if they're not getting fired up by your ambition, it might be time to make some tough calls. You can't drag dead weight to the top.
Remember, some folks will try to hitch a ride on your success train, but if they don't have that hunger themselves, there's nothing you can do about it. You can't inject motivation into someone's veins. That fire has gotta come from within.
So here's your mission: Figure out what lights you up inside. Find that thing that makes you want to leap out of bed every morning. Then grab onto it with both hands and don't let go. Chase it, build it, live it.
In the end, it's simple: Find your hunger, feed it, and be fucking great. The rest is just noise.
Quote of the Day:
"He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." - Friedrich Nietzsche
