The first draft doesn't have to come from you. The verification does.
My electrical engineering degree was essentially useless in one sense. Very little of what I learned could really be applied to a first job.
(Of course I also chose the dark side and went into coding which is a different discussion)
But what I did learn was an approach to problem analysis and resolution. A structured approach that served me well through a 50-year career in IT.
What is the actual problem I am trying to solve?
What do you know / what do you believe? How do I turn belief into knowledge?
How do I use what I know to solve the problem?
As I learn more how does that change the problem?
When I think I'm done have I actually solved the problem or just created some interesting noise?
