I was reading a Tim Denning article the other day, and there was one quote in there that really caught my attention. "Obsession forces you to seek solitude". This really got me thinking to the point where I even left a comment saying I was gonna steal this. And really, it's such a powerful statement because it's true.
Have you ever come across a quote that hits you like a freight train? Well, I was scrolling through Tim Denning's stuff the other day when BAM! This gem smacked me right in the face: "Obsession forces you to seek solitude".
Holy shit, right? I mean, I was so floored I actually commented, "I'm stealing this." Plus, I got permission from the man himself…
Think about it. When was the last time you got so wrapped up in something that the world just... disappeared?
When Obsession Kicks In
Sometimes we're just going through the motions - doing stuff for fun or a side hustle. But when obsession hits, you unlock a new level. You're in hyper-focus mode.
It's just you and the idea. You think about it 24/7. Everything else fades away.
Maybe you have this killer app idea. Suddenly, you're bailing on nights out, ignoring calls, and living off takeout. You've gone full hermit—and you're totally cool with it.
The Isolation of Creation
The last thing you want is distractions. You're taking risks, learning, failing, and trying again. Whether it's YouTube videos or X posts, you're figuring out what works.
Say you're trying to blow up on YouTube. You're not just posting videos - you're obsessing over every detail. Tweaking lighting at 2 AM, re-recording intros 20 times. Your phone's blowing up with texts, but you don't even notice.
This obsession creates a bubble. And inside it is where you level up. It's not about being antisocial - it's about giving yourself space to focus on your passion. And trust me, that feeling of progress? It beats any party, hands down.
Finding Balance
Obsession is powerful. Everyone should experience it. Getting so into something that you isolate yourself? That's how you reach new levels.
But here's the deal: you gotta come up for air sometimes. Touch some grass. Check in with your people. Make sure you haven't turned into a complete cave troll.
That obsession is like your secret weapon. Don't go blabbing about it to everyone and their dog. Wait till it's ready, till you've got something solid to show for all that alone time.
It's like you're cooking up this amazing dish. You don't want people poking their noses in, offering "helpful" suggestions when you're in the zone. Nah, you wait till it's perfect, then you serve that bad boy up and blow their minds.
The Fear of Being Alone
Solitude freaks some people out. It's just you and your thoughts, and for some, that's scarier than a horror movie marathon.
Why are we so damn afraid of being alone? Is it some kind of codependency thing? Or are we just running from our own minds?
Think about it. How many people do you know who can't sit still without checking their phone every two seconds? It's like they're allergic to their own company.
Maybe it's because when we're alone, we've got to face our shit. No distractions, no noise, just us and whatever's going on in our heads. And for some folks, that's like staring into the abyss.
But the thing is, that alone time? That's where the good stuff happens. That's where you figure out who you really are, what you really want. It's not always comfortable, but damn, it's necessary.
Embracing Solitude
Your alone time is not just good, it's essential. It's where you become a badass version of yourself.
Some people look at us solo flyers like we're weirdos. "Oh, you like being alone? Must be antisocial." Nah fam, flip that script. Maybe there's something off about needing constant company. Ever think of that?
If you can't handle being alone, what are you running from? Your thoughts? Your ideas? The person you could become if you just gave yourself the chance?
Look, I'm not saying become a hermit. But embracing solitude? That's how you level up. That's how you dig deep and find the gold. It's not always pretty, and it's not always fun, but it's always worth it.
So next time you're alone, don't freak out. Don't reach for your phone. Sit with it. Let your mind wander. Who knows? You might just stumble onto your next big idea, or hell, you might just figure out who you really are.
And let me tell you, that beats the hell out of another mindless scroll through social media.
Quote of the Day:
"It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested." - Seneca
