Ever notice how you set out with a plan for your day, your career, or even just making dinner, and then... shit happens? That perfectly planned life suddenly takes an unexpected turn? Yeah, me too.
The Never-Ending Journey
Life is an iterative process. It's always evolving, always changing. We never really stop, never truly complete anything. We just keep going.
It reminds me of how we often tell ourselves, "Once I get that promotion/buy that house/lose those 10 pounds, THEN I'll be happy." But the truth is, there's always something next. The finish line keeps moving because life isn't about finishing—it's about continuing to grow and adapt.
Think about how many times you've told yourself, "After this big thing is over, life will settle down." And then it never really does, does it? That's life in a nutshell.
Trial and Error
Life is a constant process of trial and error:
You try a new approach to your morning routine—works great for three days, then you oversleep and your whole day is thrown off before you've had coffee.
You start a new relationship thinking you've learned from past mistakes—surprise! You've just discovered exciting new challenges you never anticipated.
You switch careers expecting everything to be better—only to find you've just swapped one set of problems for another.
The funny thing is we adjust and adapt constantly. That moment when you realize your "I'll just have one cookie" promise keeps failing? That's you recognizing a pattern that needs fixing. When you notice you always fight with your partner when you're hungry? You just discovered something important about yourself that needs attention.
We're constantly troubleshooting, trying new approaches, and testing things out. Sometimes everything flows perfectly. Other times? Total meltdown and you're left wondering how you got yourself into this mess. (Spoiler: it happens to everyone.)
Letting Go and Moving On
Ever invested time in something that eventually became useless? Maybe you spent years developing a skill that's now irrelevant. Or maintained friendships that no longer serve you.
Sometimes we need to ask ourselves: "If this isn't adding value to my life, should I still hang onto it?" That might mean dropping hobbies that don't bring joy, relationships that drain you, or habits that don't serve you anymore.
And let's talk about all that baggage we carry—childhood conditioning, outdated beliefs, that weird habit you picked up in college. Some of it's worth keeping, some needs to be seriously reconsidered.
The Daily Challenges
Every day brings something new:
Maybe you're battling imposter syndrome
Maybe you're stuck in a mental fog
Maybe your kids are being a total pain in the ass
Maybe your relationship is facing issues you don't know how to handle
But that's the process—you identify the problem, try a solution, see if it works, and move forward.
We Are in Control
Here's the thing: we're in the driver's seat of our own lives. We determine what direction to take, what to prioritize, and how to adapt when things go sideways.
I do this all the time. I'll binge-watch movies for months, then suddenly not watch anything for a year because I'm into something else. I'll be super into fitness, then switch to focusing on a creative project. Life keeps moving forward—just with different aspects taking center stage at different times.
The Ongoing Journey
The beauty of this whole mess is that there is no end state. No final version. Just continuous growth, adjustment, and occasionally, a complete fresh start.
Take your daily habits, for instance. Maybe you've tried dozens of morning routines: the 5 AM club that lasted three days or journaling that somehow morphed into scrolling Instagram. Each attempt taught you something, even if it was just "don't try to become a morning person during a Netflix binge."
Or look at your career path. Remember when you thought you'd follow a straight line from education to retirement? How's that working out?
For most of us, it's more like a road trip with no fixed destination—changing direction constantly, taking unexpected detours, and occasionally arriving somewhere better than where we intended to go.
So next time you feel like you've failed because your life isn't going perfectly according to plan, remember: everyone's just figuring it out as they go. The setbacks aren't failures—they're just the next stepping stones on your path.
What part of your life are you currently working to improve? And what new direction are you excited to explore next? Whatever it is, just remember that it's all part of the process, and don't be afraid to go back to what worked before if needed.

"Loss is nothing else but change, and change is Nature's delight." — Marcus Aurelius
